‘Soothing and anti-inflammatory. Use cooled chamomile tea as a lotion to relieve any hot, inflamed skin conditions (e.g sunburn, hives, or rashes). Drink the tea, with its calming and anti-allergenic properties, to alleviate eczema , rashes and so on.’ (Neals Yard Remedies)
Recently I have cut down dramatically on the amount of cups of caffeinated tea I have, which was somewhere around 10-15 cups a day. I wanted to see if cutting down the caffeine, would help to reduce the amount of headaches I was suffering from and help my sleep patterns. I decided to limit my intake of normal caffeinated tea to two cups a day, one in the morning and one at dinner time or tea time. Browsing in the supermarket I found Chamomile tea which is naturally caffeine free, after I did a little research I replaced all the rest of my cups of tea with Chamomile tea.
The results really impressed me, I rarely suffer now from the headaches I was having before and I found that my sleep patterns are getting better, it used to take me a long time to drift off my mind was fluttering from one thing to the other. Cutting down the caffeine has certainly helped but how much did drinking Camomile tea help?
The benefits of chamomile tea
Aids and regulates sleep; Chamomile Tea is a natural sedative and has been linked to help ease insomnia , I found that drinking a cup an hour before bedtime helped me to relax and my sleep patterns definitely improved.
Relief from stress induced headaches; We live such busy life’s its easy for it to become overwhelming and stressful. I didn’t believe a tea could help reduce headaches but I was wrong, the amount of headaches I was having from stress has more than reduced.
Lowers stress – Camomile has a pleasant taste that is soothing and calming, research has shown that drinking a cup of camomile tea can help increase serotonin and melatonin hormones to reduce stress and worry.
Eases menstrual symptoms; Camomile is a antispasmodic herb meaning it can help treat spasms such as tummy pain and period cramps.
Help treat stomach disorders such as IBS; ‘It has anti-inflammatory properties that help ease the twisting nature of the gut and allow the passage of gas and smoother bowl movements’ (Organic Facts) Drinking just one cup of camomile teas can aid in making you feel better.
Don’t take my word for it , TRY IT !!! you will be pleasantly surprised.
I would recommend adding a spoonful of honey if you prefer sweet things like I do !
